Tabemono in Tokyo – DisneySea’s Fine Dining in the park – SS Columbia

Spread the love

You can view my writeup of Tokyo DisneySea here.  Tokyo DisneySea has many fine dining options in the park.  The SS Columbia is one of them.

The SS Columbia was fun given its unique atmosphere as it made you feel like you’re stepping into the Titanic.  Located in what is modeled after a huge ocean-liner in the American Waterfront port of DisneySea, the dining provides a unique experience and ambiance.

Once past the entrance, you have to make your way up the stairs. Although it’s not a real boat, DisneySea does a great job of making it feel like you’re really in a ocean-liner.

The decor had lots of use of pastels and an Art Nouveau look. It again re-enforces that the target audience are for teens and up, but my younger two were no less impressed.

The dining room is elegant and classy. There’s a piano at the far end that was played by a well-trained pianist throughout our dinner. Get’s you feeling like you are in the Titanic.

For the adults we all chose the Special Dinner course with the surf and turf main option that included roast beef and lobster tail for 5350yen (about $53 in the U.S.).

Bread is offered in the beginning of the meal.

Probably the only thing disappointing thing was the bread offering, as it was not really memorable.

Salmon Trout Tartare with Marinated Seafood.

The appetizer was salmon tartare topped with marinated scallop and whole shelled shrimp. I really like the vegetables used as it was a succulent leaf that was crispy and refreshing.  This was a tasty and nicely presented dish.

Chilled Cream of Corn Soup with Jellied Consume

Next was a chilled corn soup topped with a gelatin consume and okra.  This was corn perfection, as it’s corn-flavor overload in a bowl balanced by the umami goodness of the consume gelatin.  The chilled soup adds a refreshing element and pairs well with the flavor of corn. The gold stars add a nice visual appeal.

Roast Beef with Red Wine Sauce and Baked Lobster Tail with Avocado Sauce.

The main course was a perfectly cooked roast beef and lobster tail.  Both the lobster and beef were expertly done and cooked perfectly.  Wish they had meals like this in the Los Angeles Disney.

For dessert, you get to pick from four choices that were in a glass.

Dessert was brought over and you get to pick two from a choice of Chocolate Brownie & Crushed Cookie, Mixed Berry Truffle, Peach & Maple Cookie, and Blue Jellied Dessert & Sherbet.

Being in Disney, they put focus on the kids meals too.

The kid’s meal consisted of a 3 course meal of with corn chowder soup, main course, and ice cream for dessert.  The main course consisted of a big fried tempura whole shrimp, beef steak, and sausage.

Overall, the meal was good and the service was great at the SS Columbia.  I made reservations by phone a couple of months beforehand, as I knew it was difficult to get a table for a party of six from our prior trip.  In fact, I had to book two separate tables of three each, as their reservation system only had a max seating of four people.  But once we arrived they sat us all together.

Another great option for dinner at Tokyo DisneySea that I rate even higher than SS Columbia is at Magellan’s, which is also in the park.  You can read about our experiences here.
